5 Unintended Marketing Techniques
As a solo attorney, I understand the importance of marketing. I am also not a big fan of marketing in the traditional sense. I don’t really enjoy making videos and social media posts. I am an introvert, so I am not a huge fan of crowded (pre-Covid) networking events. Marketing is a necessary evil, so how do I do it? I found over the years that I have been doing what I like to call “passive marketing”. I have been doing things that I enjoy or that are otherwise innocuous and they have turned into unintended promotion for me and my firm. In high school I loved being a part…

Jump and build your wings on the way down
I was asked to share a story. One that women could relate to and may be be inspired or encouraged by. This story is featured on Hezalia. I have to say I had hard time coming up with something. But I realized I talk to women all the time who are going through this same issue so i figured it would be good to share. I couldn’t even figure out a title. Good the founder of Hezalia had something in mind. Here it is: Some times our biggest obstacles are the ones we put in our own path. Once we feel confident enough to move them there is no limit…

What does Freedom of Speech really mean?
People have been throwing around the 1st Amendment and Freedom of Speech so much lately. It’s become the go to response whenever someone gets in trouble for saying something they should not have said. Take Roseann. While there has been a lot of praise for her show getting cancelled there has also been a lot of “freedom of speech!” comments out there. Like all attorneys, I took a constitutional law class in law school. Even though I got an A (I think I got an A) I am not in any way shape or form an expert on the constitution. But I know enough to know that Freedom Speech is…

Detroit the Movie
I’ve just watched a prescreening of the movie Detroit. And…I’m…I’m left with all sorts of feelings. I’ve watched these historical movies of the plight of black people before and while “those slave” movies made feel a sort of sadness it was always easy to dismiss those feelings as “that was a long time ago.” But Detroit… Detroit was 50 years ago, almost exactly to the day and I felt as if I was watching the present day news. It wasn’t 1967 it was 2017. The tears came without me even realizing it. I felt angry and sick and…and… traumatized. It was a lot in to take in in 2 hours.…

What If Edward and Bella Got Divorced?
I recently got the chance to finally go to Forks. I’ve been wanting to go ever since I moved to Washington some 8 years ago. I’m not sure if it was ever thing my younger self dreamed of but it was fun none the less. My little getaway to the land of Twilight made me reminisce on a post I wrote some 5 years ago describing the legal process through the divorce of Edward and Bella. Check out an updated version below: I know it’s too painful to think about and it will never never ever happen but let’s just pretend it might. Edward and Bella do not live…

Father’s Day Was Yesterday
Father’s Day was yesterday and since I was traveling I did not do my normal Facebook tribute to my Dad. I did send a gift, card and made sure to call him so it wasn’t a complete loss. I am by all accounts a Daddy’s Girl. I have a wonderful father (and mother) and I am quite thankful for him. I can’t imagine growing up or even being grown up and not having a father, my Father. I often feel that fathers are very overlooked in our society. I wrote a post some years back on fathers and family law if you want to check it out; and reflecting once more on Father’s Day I fee…

The Founder
ALASKA! Such a majestic beauty of wonder. There were glaciers, whales, sea lions, and nearly endless sun. So much to see. So why would I be watching a movie in the cabin of my wonderful cruise ship? Well it was 2am and at that time there are no glaciers, whales, sea lions, or nearly endless sun to see. So when I found myself unable to sleep I turned on the TV to one of the two movie channels available. A movie called The Founder was about to come on. I had no idea what this movie was, something related to McDonald’s since I saw the golden arches but other than…

Take A Vacation and Live Your Life This Summer
I recently returned from my first real vacation since I went solo some 4+ years ago. Now what do I mean by “real vacation”? I mean I was on a cruise ship in the middle of the Mediterranean with no Wi-Fi and no cell service. I was for the first time completely cut off from work. Now I’ve taken “vacations” before but I was constantly answering emails and taking calls. In one instance I was scrambling to find a place to fax last minute documents I received on Christmas Eve. Not much of a vacation. Being a solo attorney makes it hard to get away. But we all know the…
